SMART Goals – For Sustainable Health & Wellness Improvements

Achieving lasting change in health and wellness requires more than just good intentions. SMART goals provide a framework for turning aspirations into actionable steps, increasing the likelihood of success. The SMART goal model stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound, a structured approach that helps break down larger objectives into manageable steps.

For example, instead of a vague goal like "I want to exercise more," a SMART goal would be: "I will go to the gym for 30 minutes three times a week over the next month." This goal is specific (gym, 30 minutes, 3 times a week), measurable (tracking each session), achievable (realistic for the timeframe), relevant (supports health goals), and time-bound (one month).

Using SMART goals, individuals can track progress, celebrate small achievements, and make adjustments as needed. SMART goal-setting offers a roadmap to long-term success, helping to keep motivation high and build confidence in achieving meaningful health and wellness changes.
